Tips for Preventing Suspicious Returns and Return Fraud During the Holiday Period
This holiday season, prevent return fraud by spotting patterns, training support teams, and using Redo & Yofi’s tools to protect
Yup — you heard it here first. It does not matter if it’s a $40,000+ car or a $200 pair of shoes. We might sound like a broken record, but everything on the internet is being botted or targeted by bad actors. Like anything ordered online, there is a tool that allows you to peek inside Tesla’s inventory instead of waiting months for your beloved car. This is a true first-world problem.
Tesla’s price of a Model Y has increased over 30% in the past year, and the notorious chip shortage has yielded growing demand and long waiting periods. We already knew people hate waiting in lines, especially with Elon Meme-Lord releasing new features giving us FOMO (fear of missing out, in case people didn’t know). But, how eager were people to bypass this long wait period to play Pac-Man in their Tesla? Extremely.
If you were too lazy to read the VICE article, the TLDR is that there’s a tool in Discord and Twitter that alerts the users when a car is up for sale. How can they get this inventory information? Tesla puts their available vehicles in “existing inventory,” and instead of you constantly refreshing the page, the inventory bot will alert you once a car is available. And you do need a bot to notify you, as these cars sell like hotcakes!
Look, we all hate lines. But there is always “that guy” who has to find a way to beat the system and about 4000–5000 people has used this bot. It is a little annoying, as these customers wait for a long time for their Teslas — it is kind of a rite of passage.
What is funny and something I did not believe at first, one of our close friends got their Tesla order canceled, as they were deemed as a reseller.
It was shoddy evidence, with their main argument being they saw the car being resold on craigslist but could not provide a link or a VIN. Strange, and unfortunately, our friend lost their spot in the Tesla queue. We find the depth of products targeted by bots and bad actors fascinating, as it’s truly an endless game of cat-n-mouse. Ps — if anyone knows Elon and wants to hit him up, we would appreciate it!
